The race began at 0700hrs to avoid the heat of the day but in fact the conditions were very favourable at least for the first couple of hours with some cloud cover until the sun managed to break through but even then I did not suffer too much. I completed the course in 4hrs 11mins 50secs and was fairly pleased with this overall. I had started well and was hopeful of getting home inside 4hrs but started to tighten up and suffer from cramp at around the 15mile marker so confess to some walking and much stretching from then on. The Houston marathon claims to be among the top five in the U.S. and apparently there were about 15000 competitors but from this number most took part in the 1/2 marathon, 5k, and wheelchair races.
