As we drove to Seaford the sky got darker and darker – and a small black cloud turned into a huge black monster.

At registration I was told that the swim would be cut short to 750m – as the swell was getting bigger. Whilst thinking I know it all ( i.e. being a man) I went to check the sea as surely it could not be that bad – when the waves are bigger than you –it is not a good sign!!!

Whilst in transition checking my kit for the 7th or 8th time – they announced that the swim would be cancelled and be replaced with a 5km run.

My wave started – half way through the first 5km it started to rain ( that is as interesting as the first 5km gets) , the bike is a multi lap affair ( 12 laps) with two dead turns , the wind was so strong here that the bike ( including me ) was blown 3ft to the right – a bit of a shock to the guy on the other side of the road coming towards me. Then off the bike and a 4 lap 10km run – I had real issues counting all these laps!!!! – I’m sure the laps were getting longer every turn ( the legs were not happy about running for a 2nd time in a day).

A special mention to Tara who sat in the car and counted the bike laps for me – who then ventured out into the rain and wind to tell me I had 2 laps to go , then cheer me on for the 10km run ( it is either love – or just seeing if she could claim on the life insurance yet).

All in all a tough race – 1st Duathlon I have done – so did not know what to expect plus was not prepared to do a du. – all I will say is my legs hurt.

Anybody who does duathlons for fun is sick !!!!!!

Thre were around 200 finishers on the Saturday.
